It is often desired to complete or customize small batch production runs of wood based products with professional markings. Typically, a brass branding iron can be CNC Milled with a mirror image of the marking, then heated and applied to the parts. However, this method can be very cost prohibitive and some graphics may be too detailed for the approach (i.e. due to the size of an end mill or marking design).
Therefore, the shop invested in a 2-Axis LASER etching tool that could be used to professionally mark parts. It is much less cost prohibitive and flexible as no hard tooling has to be produced and the markings can vary part to part (i.e. just different g-code pathing files). Also, by designing and building a air-filtration cabinet containing several layers of industrial charcoal and HEPA filters, certified protective glass window, and connection to shop dust collection vacuum supply, the process can be done in a safe manner (i.e. eye and lung protection). Addition of casters allows the entire system to be stored under our ShopBot CNC Router and accessed when needed.
